You’re on a busy corner at 11:30 a.m. The lunch crowd is moving. Somebody two blocks away just pulled out their phone and typed “food truck near me.”
They didn’t find you.
Not because your food isn’t good. Not because you don’t have followers. Because in the forty-five seconds it took that person to decide where to eat, your Google profile said you close at 2 p.m. — and you’re parked somewhere that isn’t listed. Your Instagram hasn’t posted today’s location yet. Last week’s hours are still up. The phone number links to a voicemail nobody checks. They went somewhere else. That’s money that walked past you this morning.
“Near Me” Is the Game
Food trucks live and die on local search. Not followers. Not brand awareness. The specific moment when someone nearby is hungry right now and their phone tells them where to go.
That decision happens in under a minute. Google runs it, and Google is scoring you on things you probably haven’t looked at this week: whether your location is accurate, whether your hours match today, whether your profile has fresh photos, whether your business name is consistent across every place it appears, whether reviews are answered, whether the links on your socials work. Every gap is a reason the algorithm ranks someone else above you. Not someone with better food. Someone with a cleaner profile.
The Part That Compounds
It’s not a one-time fix. Your location changes every day, which means your Google profile needs to match every day, which means every platform that lists your hours needs to match, which means your story, your post, your link-in-bio all need to reflect where you are right now — not where you were last Tuesday.
The consistency of that signal over time is what builds Google’s trust in your profile. One missed week and the ranking slips. Two weeks of inconsistent hours and the algorithm doesn’t know what to show people. Reviews left unanswered say the profile isn’t active. A menu link that breaks says don’t send traffic here. This isn’t a checklist you do once. It’s a daily job. A real one.
You’re Also Running a Truck
You’re cooking at 6 a.m. Driving to the location. Prepping before the rush, working through it, breaking down after. Sourcing product, managing cash, booking next week’s spots, answering DMs, handling the equipment problem you didn’t plan for.
The idea that you’ll also audit your Google profile, update hours, post your location to three platforms at the right time, answer every review, check your links, watch what nearby trucks are doing, and keep every surface that lists you current and consistent — that’s not realistic. Nobody doing this for real has that bandwidth.
